Prevention is better than cure-the old saying has been proven right once again in today’s “Cancer Awareness Program” that was held at UID.
The guests of honor Dr. Dharmesh Panchal, M.S., M.Ch., Senior Consultant Cancer Surgeon, Shalby Hospitals and Mr. Hirdesh Verma, Sr. Manager, SBI Life Insurance Co. Ltd, Ahmedabad, which has very recently launched “Sampoorn Cancer Suraksha” policy shared a simple fact with our students that cancer and death are not synonymous.
With some wonderful audio-visual presentations, they showed how some minor changes in our lifestyle can help us prevent this dreaded disease.
Through this program, our students also came to know that Increasing stress levels, sporadic sleeping patterns and chemical laden food material are some of the major reasons why Cancer strikes its chords within human body.
The Cancer Awareness and Educational Program, a part of UID’s social responsibility for its students was able to address the below mentioned objectives:
-Creating awareness of the disease.
-Helping students recognize the early signs and symptoms of cancer, thus enabling them to seek treatment at an early stage. The program encouraged the participants to seek prompt medical attention for symptoms which may include lumps, sores, bleeding, hoarseness, weight loss and persistent indigestion/cough/pain, etc.
-Educating students about the key risk factors of cancer which could be prevented by modifying lifestyle or avoiding the key risk factors.
-Informing students about the importance of cancer check-ups at an early stage.
